Most work Christmas parties in Southland aren't held in a ballroom. They're usually in a private function room at a hotel, club or bar, and otherwise in a restaurant or the workplace itself with the desks pushed back. The crowd is everyone from the apprentice to the boss, and for the first couple of hours they mainly want to eat, have a drink and catch up with people they've worked beside all year.

That's the Xmas do Night Cru is built for. It's the same musicians as Midnight Cruise on a much smaller setup, so it fits a room that a full drum kit and backline won't, and it sits under the conversation through dinner. Once the meal and the speeches are done, we lift it and the people who want to dance get up and dance.

What we bring

• Our own PA and sound system. Nothing for you or the venue to hire.
• A small footprint. The end of a function room or a corner of a bar is usually enough.
• Volume that follows the night. Background through drinks and dinner, louder once the floor opens up.
• A song list spanning several decades. Which matters when the team ranges from 20 to 65.
• Invoicing to your business. The cost is agreed before the night, with no cash on the door.

Private function rooms

The most common one. A private room at a hotel, club or bar, booked for the team with a dinner or buffet. We play quietly while the food goes out, stay off during any speeches or Secret Santa, then lift it once the meal is done. These rooms often have a noise limit or a public bar next door, which is exactly what Night Cru is built for.

Christmas dinner at a restaurant

Some teams take over a restaurant, or a section of one, for the night. Same approach: under the conversation while the courses go out, livelier for the last part of the evening.

Drinks at a bar

After-work drinks that turn into a proper night. Night Cru suits these well, since there's often limited floor space and a crowd that's coming and going rather than sitting down to a meal.

Office and workplace Christmas parties

A cleared-out office, a staffroom, a workshop floor or a shed. If there's power and a bit of space, we bring everything else. Send us a photo of where you're thinking and we'll tell you if it works.

Larger Christmas functions with a dance floor

If you've booked a hotel function room or a hall for a larger team and the dancing is the main event, the full Midnight Cruise band is the better fit. Our corporate events page covers those nights in more detail.
