Dine and dance evenings, Christmas functions, awards nights and conference entertainment — a live band that turns up on time, plays what the room wants, and turns down when you ask.
For Event Organisers
If you organise functions for a living, the band is usually the part you can't fully control. We've been the answer to that problem in Southland for a long time — including a standing annual dine and dance at the Kelvin Hotel and Christmas functions at Ascot Park.
What that means in practice: we confirm in writing, we arrive early enough to be set up and quiet before your guests sit down, we play at a volume the room can hold a conversation over until it's time to dance, and we stop when the run sheet says stop.
Event Types
The format we play most. Background music or silence through the meal, then dance sets afterwards. These sell out year after year at the venues we work with, largely because guests know what they're getting.
December books out early — often months ahead. If you're planning a staff Christmas do, that's the one to lock in first, because the good dates go while everyone else is still deciding on a venue.
We can stay out of the way during presentations and speeches, then lift the room afterwards. If you need us to work around a stage, a lectern or an AV setup, tell us the layout and we'll fit around it.
We've played everything from conference wind-downs to public street-upgrade launches for a crowd of all ages. Different rooms need different things, and we'd rather ask beforehand than guess on the night.
Two Options
Dine and dance, Christmas functions
The full setup with drum kit and PA. The right choice when you've booked a hall or hotel function room and you want people dancing after dinner.
Restaurants, bars, smaller rooms
A compact acoustic version of the same band. Built for restaurant functions, client evenings and venues with a sound limit or a small footprint to work with.
From Organisers
"As an events co-ordinator, Midnight Cruise is our go-to act. With a great catalogue of danceable favourites and realistic pricing, they've never failed us. Our Kelvin Hotel dine & dance always sells out — and the same groups keep coming back."

"They had people on the floor dancing with their first song and kept them going all night. Really easy to work with — they read a crowd well. We have booked them again for next year!"
Bryan Townley
Ascot Park Hotel · Dine & Dance
"Strong vocals, balanced with impressive guitar, drums and keyboard skills — the band kept the crowd involved and entertained. A totally professional band with top class equipment and talent to match."

Organiser Questions
Yes. We'll agree the cost with you before the event and invoice the business — no cash-on-the-night arrangements needed.
Yes. We can run background music through the PA or play a quieter set during the meal, then bring the volume up for the dance portion of the evening.
The full band needs a reasonable stage or floor area for a drum kit and PA. If space is tight, the Night Cru acoustic setup fits into considerably less. Send us the room dimensions or a photo and we'll tell you which works.
Of course. Send us the run sheet and we'll build our sets around it, including staying off entirely during awards or formal segments.
Earlier than feels necessary. December dates, especially Fridays and Saturdays, are usually gone well in advance.
We do — there's a separate page for weddings covering first dances, run sheets and venue noise limits.
Send us the date, the venue and your expected head count. We'll confirm availability and a price within 24 hours.
