A live covers band for your reception — real musicians, no backing tracks, and a dance floor that fills from the first song. Based in Invercargill, playing weddings throughout Southland for over 50 years.
Your Reception
The hard part of a wedding reception isn't the first hour — it's keeping a room of mixed ages on the dance floor after the speeches. Your grandparents, your work mates and your cousins all want something different, and a playlist can't read the room.
That's the job we've been doing in Southland since 1975. We watch what's working, and we change what isn't. If the floor is packed we keep it going; if it's thinning out we shift gear. Two of us are in the Southland Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, so between us there's a very long memory of what gets a Southland crowd moving.
Planning It
Every wedding is different, but most Southland receptions we play follow a similar shape. It helps to have it in mind when you're building your run sheet.
We're generally set up and sound-checked before guests arrive, so there's no banging around during your meal. Through dinner and the speeches we either stay quiet or run background music through the PA — your call.
We'll play it live, and we'll take our cue from you on timing. If you'd rather use the original recording, we'll run it through the PA instead — some songs are tied to a particular version and that's completely fair.
From there we play in sets, with short breaks in between covered by a playlist. If the floor is going well at the end of a set, we'll often just keep playing.
A lot of Southland venues have a sound limit or a hard finish time, and rural venues often have conditions attached to their licence. Tell us early and we'll plan around it — we're used to turning down when we're asked, and our acoustic setup exists partly for exactly this reason.
Two Options
The whole reception experience
Full drum kit, full PA and the volume to fill a hall. This is the one to book if you want the dance floor busy all night and you've got the room for it.
Smaller rooms, tighter noise limits
The same musicians in a compact acoustic setup. Ideal for restaurant receptions, smaller guest lists, or venues where a full kit is more than the room can take.
From Couples
"Midnight Cruise were the perfect band to have at our wedding! So easy to deal with, real crowd pleasers and very professional. We had so many comments on the band — music you provided will always be a memorable part of our Wedding Day."

"Pricing was excellent value for money. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed their performance, and pretty much every one of our guests commented favourably. I would highly recommend Midnight Cruise."

Wedding Questions
Usually, yes — give us plenty of notice and we'll work it up. If it's a song that really only works as the original recording, we'll play that through the PA instead and pick things up straight after.
Yes. We're Invercargill-based and play weddings throughout Southland. Travel costs may apply for venues outside the city — we'll tell you upfront rather than surprise you later.
No. We play to a lot of venues with sound limits and we're happy to turn down when we're asked. If the limit is strict, the Night Cru acoustic setup is often the better fit.
It depends on the setup, how long you need us and where the venue is. Send us your date and venue and we'll come back with a straight number — no packages you have to decode.
Wedding-season Saturdays go early. As soon as you've locked in your date and venue, get in touch and we'll tell you whether we're free.
We do — dine and dance evenings, Christmas functions and awards nights. There's a separate page for corporate events with the detail.
Tell us your wedding date, your venue and roughly how many guests you're expecting, and we'll come back to you within 24 hours.
